UK drivers beware!! New six-point penalty for mobile phone use when driving ????

Hian! You guys should be careful out there o! Don’t text and drive: not only is it dangerous, the law is no longer playing with anybody! Effective today, the 23rd September, 2016, UK drivers and motorists face a six-point penalty on their licence if they are caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

This means that ministers are set to double the punishment for using a phone. The penalty  was previously three points.

The ‘two strikes’ policy means drivers will hit the 12-point threshold for an automatic ban after two offences instead of four.

Young motorists with less than two years on the road would have their licence revoked after being caught just once.

On-the-spot fines for illegally using a phone while driving will rise from £100 to £200 under the reforms, Government sources said.

Last night, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said he wanted the use of mobiles at the wheel to become as socially unacceptable as drink-driving.

When I think of how many lives have been needlessly lost as a result of reckless driving, I can’t help but feel this is a move in the right direction. There are people who walk into lamp posts while texting, so the dangers of doing this behind the wheels of a moving vehicle are exponentially greater.
