An Ode to Fela Anikulapo Kuti – 19 years on, we still hear you in our hearts!

#NowPlaying: Fela – Gentleman

On this day 19 years ago, this irreplaceable one, transfigured into glory.

This great one.

Fela kuti

Death didn’t take him.

Death was in his pouch, so, he took death when he desired.

Now, he lives on in the hearts of the discerning as a transfigured truth.

He wasn’t vocal, no, he was the voice…still, he is the voice.

The voice that boldly rang INTROSPECTION as the herb that was lacking in Nigeria’s ailing past, absent in its failing present, and needful in its flailing future.

He sang it all; He said it all; He sounded it all;

…today’s rot, yesterday’s mistake, tomorrow’s cloud, he saw it all.

Fela Kuti

Sadly, we haven’t got it yet; we still lack introspective ethos, we still do things anyhow…

Well,

ANIKULAPO!

ABAMI EDA!

OLUFELA!

Fela Anikulapo Kuti – October 15, 1938 – August 2, 1997.

The original heart. The original act. The Original;

Live On. Sing On. Breathe On. Preach On!

…into our hearts, and our national consciousness;

…we still hear you, loud and clear!
